Trnovec (German Ternowetz , Hungarian Tövisfalva - until 1907 Tövisfalu ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia 300 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the skalica district of, a circle kraj Trnavský heard and in the traditional landscape Záhorie lies.
geography
The municipality is located on the northern edge of the Chvojnická pahorkatina hills on the left bank of the Chvojnica , just before the March valley . The center of the village is at an altitude of 180 m nm and is three kilometers from Holíč and eight kilometers from Skalica .
Neighboring municipalities are Prietržka in the northeast, Popudinské Močidľany in the east and southeast and Holíč in the south and west.
history
According to archaeological research, the present municipality was settled by the Slavs in the 8th and 9th centuries. The present place was first mentioned in writing as Thernowawes in 1548 , when Croatians settled in the place. In 1736 Trnovec, like other places in the Holitsch estate, came under the ownership of Franz Stephan of Lorraine . The main source of income was and is agriculture, but there was also a brick factory in Trnovec , the products of which were also used in the construction of the Holíč Castle .
Until 1918, the place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Trnovec had 317 inhabitants, 308 of whom were Slovaks and 1 Czech. 2 residents indicated a different ethnic group and 6 residents gave no information about the ethnic group. 232 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church, 55 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, 5 residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church and 3 residents to the Orthodox Church. 11 residents had no denomination and 11 residents had no denomination.
