Kopčany ( German Koptschan , older Gopschein , Hungarian Kopcsány - until 1882 Kopcsán ) is a municipality in western Slovakia . It is located about 2 km from the border with the Czech Republic on the March , about 11 km from Skalica and 80 km from Bratislava .
The place was first mentioned as Kopchan in 1392 . During the Great Moravian Empire it was part of the Mikulčice agglomeration. The church of St. Margaret from the 9th century is the only surviving church from the Great Moravia period.
Until mid-2007, the cadastral community of Struha was also part of the municipality.
