Petrova Ves (German Petersdorf , Hungarian Péterlak - until 1907 Péterfalu ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 1,091 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the skalica district of, a circle kraj Trnavský heard and in the traditional landscape Záhorie is .
geography
The municipality is located in the Chvojnická pahorkatina hill country , where it merges to the west into the Dolnomoravský úval basin (both part of the Vienna basin ). To the northwest of the village is a small reservoir called Petrova Ves . The center of the village is located at an altitude of 207 m nm and is four kilometers from Gbely , eleven kilometers from Holíč and 16 kilometers from Skalica .
Neighboring municipalities are Holíč in the north, Radimov in the northeast, Unín and Letničie in the east, Šaštín-Stráže in the south, Smolinské in the southwest and Gbely in the west.
history
According to archaeological studies, the current municipality was inhabited during the Celtic and Roman times. In the 9th and 10th centuries the area belonged to the Moravian Empire , in the 11th century it became the emerging Hungarian state.
Petrova Ves was first mentioned in writing in 1392. According to some sources, the place is said to have been named after a nobleman named Péter Varády . After the Varády , the following families were feudal owners: Bársonyi , Farkas , Thebery and Boltizár . In 1390 the village fell to Stibor von Stiborice , two years later to the estate of Holíč, at that time belonging to the Czobor family and from 1736 to 1918 the Habsburgs.
Until 1918, the place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Petrova Ves had 1109 inhabitants, 1075 of whom were Slovaks, five Magyars, three Czechs and one German and one Moravian; two residents were of a different ethnicity. 22 residents did not provide any information. 976 residents confessed to the Roman Catholic Church, eleven residents to the Evangelical Church AB, three residents to the Greek Catholic Church and one resident each to the Old Catholic Church, the Baha'itum, the Orthodox Church and the Reformed Church. 54 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 61 residents has not been determined.
