Letničie (until 1927 Slovak and "Letnice"; German Letnitz , Hungarian Letenőc - to 1900 Lettnic ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 511 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the skalica district of, a circle kraj Trnavský heard and in the traditional landscape of Záhorie .

The municipality is located in the western part of the Chvojnická pahorkatina hills . The center of the village is at an altitude of 210 m nm and is 12 kilometers from Holíč and 19 kilometers from Senica and Skalica .
Neighboring municipalities are Unín in the northeast, Štefanov in the southeast, Šaštín-Stráže in the south and Petrova Ves in the west.
history
The settlement of today's Letničie goes back to the 13th century, at that time in the border area between the kingdoms of Hungary and Bohemia. It was first mentioned in writing in 1452 as Lettniecze ; At that time the village belonged to the estate of Holitsch and had 15 portals . Important landowners came from the Czobor dynasty , who ultimately lost the property to the Viennese creditors Stegner due to debts. In 1736 Letničie became a possession of the Habsburgs , which lasted until 1918. The main source of income for the population was and is agriculture, and earlier also viticulture.
Until 1918, the place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Letničie had 514 inhabitants, including 500 Slovaks, 4 Czechs and 1 Magyar. 9 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity. 459 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church and 6 residents supported the Evangelical Church AB. 24 residents were non-denominational and 25 residents had no denomination.
