Chropov (Hungarian Sziklabánya - until 1907 Chropó , German Kroppau ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 386 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the skalica district of, a circle kraj Trnavský heard and in the traditional landscape Záhorie lies.

The municipality is located in the eastern part of the Chvojnická pahorkatina hills at the foot of the White Carpathians in the valley of the Chropovský creek (in the local dialect Chropúvka ). The center of the village is at an altitude of 246 m nm and is 13 kilometers from Holíč and Skalica and 17 kilometers from Senica .
Neighboring municipalities are Koválovec in the north, very briefly Skalica and Radějov (CZ) in the northeast, Chvojnica and Častkov in the east, Lopašov in the south and Radošovce in the west.
history
Chropov was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1394 as Kropow in a document of the Neutra chapter (some sources still mention mention from 1262 as Rupow , which is supposed to refer to the submerged place Ropov near Osuské ). At that time the village belonged to the estate of the Branč Castle , from the 16th century it was owned by several families, including Nyáry . In 1715 Chropov had vineyards, in 1752 107 families lived in the village. The main sources of income for the population were agriculture and viticulture.
Until 1918, the place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic there were saws, blacksmiths and brickworks in Chropov, and poorer residents found work in the forest.

According to the 2011 census, Chropov had 374 residents, 359 of whom were Slovaks and two Roma and two Czechs. 11 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity. 322 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 12 residents to the Evangelical Church AB and 1 resident to the Evangelical Methodist Church. 6 residents had no denomination and 33 residents had no denomination.
