Šaštín-Stráže is a city in northern western Slovakia .
The community was created in 1960 through the merger of the communities Stráže nad Myjavou (German Strascha , Hungarian Strázsa or since 1900 Morvaőr ) and Šaštín (German (Maria) Schoßberg , Hungarian Sasvár ). These two localities also form the two districts of the city. On September 1, 2001, Šaštín-Stráže was declared a town .
history
Today's Šaštín district was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1218, later called Sassin from the 17th century to the beginning of the 19th century and then called Šaštín after the establishment of Czechoslovakia in 1920. After merging with Stráže to the north, the newly created place was initially called Šaštínske Stráže , before it was given its current name in 1971. Franz I. Stephan was the landowner of the place in the 18th century and created a second model estate next to Holitsch .
