Koválov (1927–1946 Slovak "Kovalov" - until the 19th century "Hrubý Koválov" or "Veľký Koválov"; German Kowallow , older also Kowallau , Hungarian Nagykovalló ) is a municipality in western Slovakia with 697 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019 ), which belongs to the Okres Senica , a district of the Trnavský kraj .
geography
The community is in the midst of the hill country Chvojnická pahorkatina the stream Kovalovský Potok . The municipal area is accordingly hilly with smaller flat areas; Deciduous forest grows north and south of Koválov. The center of the village is at an altitude of 213 m nm and is ten kilometers from Senica .
Neighboring municipalities are Radošovce in the north, Smrdáky in the northeast, Senica in the east, Dojč in the south and southwest and Unín in the west and northwest.
history
Koválov was first mentioned in writing in 1392 as Kowalow . At that time the village was part of the Branč Castle estate , and from the 16th century that of Šaštín . The oldest surviving seal is from the beginning of the 16th century. In 1736 the Habsburgs became landowners. The main source of income for the population was predominantly agriculture, alongside livestock farming and viticulture.
The place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia and Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 713 people lived in Koválov, including 706 Slovaks, 4 Czechs and 1 Bulgarian. 2 residents stated a different ethnic group. 614 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, 13 residents the Evangelical Church AB, 2 residents the Evangelical Methodist Church and 1 resident of the Baha'i and the Greek Catholic Church; 1 resident confessed to another denomination. 67 residents had no denomination and 14 residents had no denomination.

traffic
A 3rd-order road runs through Koválov with connections to Smrdáky and Dojč. At the last-named place it ends on the 2nd order road 500 ( Kúty –Senica– Vrbovce ).
