Smrdáky (Hungarian Büdöskő - until 1900 Szmrdák ) is a spa town in western Slovakia , which is located in the Záhorie lowlands at the foot of the White Carpathians about 7 km from Senica and 80 km from Bratislava .
History of the spa
According to folklore , the mineral springs of the spa were discovered a long time ago by a shepherd, whose aching legs were healed by bathing in the unusually smelling water. The place, which was originally called Nová Ves, owes its current name to these strongly smelling mineral springs. The farmers from Nová Ves were derisively called "Smrdáci" (stinkers) at the annual markets in the neighboring towns. The municipality was mentioned for the first time as Zmrdec in 1436 and the spa town in 1617. Word of the healing effects got around very quickly, so that the mineral springs were later used for therapeutic purposes (since 1740). In the years 1832-1883 the deputy administrator of Nitra had the first spa house built. He also had an imposing castle built for his family and important guests, which became a symbol of the spa. Later a large spa park was built and further mineral springs were developed.
Medicinal springs and indications

The sulfur sludge is created when the mineral water containing hydrogen sulfide flows through loess .
