Barry Blue (born December 4, 1950 in London ; real name Barry Ian Green ) is a British singer, songwriter and producer who was able to ride with some record successes for a short time on the glam rock wave in the first half of the 1970s.

Career

Barry Blue was best known for his hit parade success Dancin '(on a Saturday Night) , which he wrote with Lynsey De Paul . In the UK , the song came in at number 2 on the singles charts in the summer of 1973 .

The singer counted as his musicians competition Gary Glitter or Alvin Stardust , the so-called glitter rock and entered accordingly styled in blue glitter suit and monstrous in numerous programs on British television his stage name platform shoes on. He mostly wrote his simple but artfully arranged pop songs himself, often together with Lynsey De Paul, or with Gerry Shury and Ron Roker. He is also the co-author of De Paul's first big hit Sugar Me from 1972. At that time he was already recording his own records under his real name Barry Green , which, however, received no special attention.

In the studio, Barry Blue was accompanied on his first hits and on his debut album, which appeared on Bell Records in early 1974 and simply bears his name, by John Richardson ( drums ), who was a short time later part of the formed formation The Rubettes . Other musicians were Chris Rea ( guitar ), Frank McDonald ( bass ), Gerry Shury ( keyboard ) and Andreas Toumazis ( bouzouki ), who also played on some of Cat Stevens' LPs .

Dancin '... remained Barry Blues biggest hit despite numerous single releases. Only the follow-up single Do You Wanna Dance? , Both from the title and rhythmically very Gary Glitters Do You Wanna Touch Me? (Oh Yeah!) Recalled almost a year earlier, it was still in the top ten of the British charts. Even with School Love and the attempt to score points with a slow rock number, he had apparently oriented himself on Glitter's number one hit I Love You Love Me Love .

With the single Miss Hit and Run , which is musically reminiscent of the early 1960s with background vocals in the style of the Four Seasons , and Hot Shot , on which a Russian-looking male choir sets the tone, it had its last top 40 ratings in 1974 in Great Britain.

As a writer and producer, Barry Blue remained active even after he left the hit lists as an interpreter. The British pop group Brotherhood of Man heralded its international comeback at the end of 1975 with the discopop title Kiss Me, Kiss Your Baby, written by Blue (26th place in Germany). The written by him and produced I Eat Cannibals by Toto Coelo came in 1982 in the British top ten. Other performers he has worked with include Bananarama , Heatwave , Cheryl Lynn , Celine Dion , Diana Ross , Dana , Dina Carroll and Cry Sisco! .
