Prievaly (until 1946 "Sandorf"; German Schandorf , older tail village , damage village , Hungarian Sándorfa - to 1900 Sandorf ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 1,011 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and is part of the Senica District , part of the Trnavský kraj .
geography
The municipality is located partly in the Záhorská nížina lowland , partly in the Little Carpathians , not far from the Záhorie military area in the Záhorie region . The center of the village is at an altitude of 250 m nm and is 22 kilometers from Senica .
history
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1439 as Svancendorf and was in the territory of the Korlátka Castle . In 1828 there are 116 houses and 1,162 inhabitants. The name, which sounds too German, was replaced in 1946 by Prievaly, which is derived from the word “prevalit” (= “to tip over”).
