The National Park Little Fatra ( Slovak Národný park Malá Fatra ) is a Slovak national park in the north-west of the country. It extends over part of the Malá Fatra Mountains . The national park was founded in 1988 after a landscape protection area had existed in roughly the same area since 1967 in order to better protect the mountains from negative civilization influences.
The administrative headquarters are in Varín .
geography
The national park is located in the political district of Žilinský kraj (Okresy Žilina , Martin and Dolný Kubín ) and extends over the eastern part of the Little Fatra, which (after the Veľký Kriváň mountain ) is named Krivánska Fatra , i.e. between the Waag pass at Strečno and the beginning of the Oravská Magura mountains near Zázrivá .
