Hansjakob Becker

Hansjakob Becker (born October 29, 1938 in Essen ) is a German Catholic theologian.

Career

Becker studied philosophy and theology in Walberberg and Munich and then worked as an assistant at the seminar for liturgical science at the University of Munich . In 1969 he received his doctorate in theology under Walter Dürig . 1975 followed the doctorate to Dr. phil. with Bernhard Bischoff and in 1977 his habilitation in liturgical science. In the same year he accepted a call to the chair for liturgical science and homiletics at the University of Mainz . He retired on March 1, 2004.

His scientific work focuses on death and burial liturgy, pericope research, medieval liturgy and monasticism (especially Carthusian monastery), Gregorian chant and hymn, Christian liturgy and secular rites as well as liturgy and space.
