Šútovo (Hungarian Sutó, until 1907 Suttó ) is a place and a municipality in northern Slovakia with 512 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and is located in Okres Martin , part of the higher administrative unit Žilinský kraj .
geography
Šútovo, located in the traditional Turz region , is located on the far northeastern edge of the Turčianska kotlina basin under the Malá Fatra Mountains to the north of the town. The Šútovský creek runs along the eastern edge of the municipality and flows into the Waag just before the Krpeľany reservoir . The center of the village, at an altitude of 460 m nm , is 19 kilometers northeast of Martin .
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1403 as Suto . At first it belonged to various noblemen, from 1470 to 1848 it was then (again) part of the estate of the Sklabiňa Castle . Due to the border location in what was then Turz County , the residents were on watch for the castle, and later they were engaged in agriculture and handicrafts.
