Turčiansky Peter (1948–1960 in Slovak "Turčiansky Svätý Peter" - until 1948 "Svätý Peter"; Hungarian Turócszentpéter - until 1907 Szentpéter ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 512 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Martin , part of the Žilinský kraj and belongs to the traditional Turiec landscape .
geography
The municipality is located in the northern part of the torrent basin (Slovak Turčianska kotlina ) on the Trebostovský creek , just before its confluence with the Turiec . The town center is at an altitude of 419 m nm and is eight kilometers from Martin .
Neighboring communities are Bystrička in the north, Košťany nad Turcom in the east and Trebostovo in the south and west.
history
Turčiansky Peter was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1323 as Scenpeter , Zenpeter or Zenthpetur and was founded on a piece of land that Thomas, son of Dionýz, received from Count Doncs in 1309. In 1386 the village was owned by Pavol's sons from Záturčie, and in the 18th and 19th centuries the Szennesy and Nyáry families owned local estates .
In 1784 the village had 32 houses and 199 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 22 houses and 203 inhabitants who were employed as farmers and oil pressers as well as local drug manufacturers.
The place in Turz County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 , after which it became part of Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic, Turčiansky Peter was an agricultural village.

According to the 2011 census, Turčiansky Peter had 397 residents, including 387 Slovaks and one German , one Moravian , one Pole and one Czech . Six residents did not provide any information about their ethnicity .
249 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 45 residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident each to the Evangelical Methodist Church and one to the Orthodox Church. 85 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 16 residents was not determined.
Buildings and monuments
- Roman Catholic St. Peter's Church in early Gothic style from the years 1309-1327, in the 17th century the church was given a Renaissance vault and was modernized around 1940. Inside, in addition to Gothic architectural detail, there is equipment from the 18th century.
- Country castle from the 16th and 17th centuries, originally in the Renaissance style, rebuilt in the 19th century
- Country castle with corner luminaires from the second half of the 19th century in a romanticizing style
