Rakovo (Hungarian Nagyrákó ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 379 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Martin , part of the Žilinský kraj , and is part of the traditional Turz landscape .

geography

The municipality is located in the central part of the torrent basin (Slovakian Turčianska kotlina ) on the right bank of the Turiec , just above the mouth of its right bank tributary Blatnický potok . The center of the village is at an altitude of 429  m nm and is 10 kilometers from Martin .

Neighboring municipalities are Príbovce in the north, Ďanová in the east, Karlová and Laskár in the south, Ležiachov in the southwest and Benice in the west.

history

Rakovo was first mentioned in writing in 1244 in an act of donation from Béla IV to the chaplain Martin as Rakouch . Other historical forms of names include Rakouch (1351), Rakov (1489), Rakowfalwa (1543), Rakowa (1622), Nagy Rokó alias Rakowo (1736) and Welke Rakowo (1773) The village was from the 16th to the 20th century Property of the Rakovský family from Turz , who played a key role in the history of the place. In 1785 the village had 35 houses and 237 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 32 houses and 204 inhabitants who were employed as farmers. In 1902 the previously independent place Lehôtka was incorporated.

The place in Turz County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 , after which it became part of Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

population

According to the 2011 census, 311 people lived in Rakovo, of which 299 were Slovaks and one Czech . One resident indicated a different ethnic group and 10 residents gave no information about the ethnic group .

138 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church, 76 residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident each to the Evangelical Methodist Church and one to the Jewish community. 73 inhabitants were without a denomination and the denomination was not determined for 22 inhabitants.

traffic

In Rakovo, the Príbovce-Rakovo station is on the Salgótarján – Vrútky railway (Diviaky – Vrútky section). The 1st order road 65 runs east of the village between Martin and Turčianske Teplice .
