Diaková (Hungarian Deákfalu ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 457 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Martin , part of the Žilinský kraj , and is counted in the traditional Turiec landscape .

The municipality is located in the northern part of the torrent basin (Slovak Turčianska kotlina ) in the valley of the brook Sklabinský potok in the catchment area of ​​the Turiec . The town center is at an altitude of 440  m nm and is four and a half kilometers from Martin .

Neighboring municipalities are Sučany in the north, Sklabinský Podzámok in the northeast, Sklabiňa in the east, Dražkovce in the south and west, and Martin in the northwest.

history

Diaková was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1348 as Dyak and was named after a notary from the Doncs team, who was known as a scholar in the Middle Ages diák . Later the village belonged to the dominion of the Sklabiňa castle and from 1526 was owned by the Révay family . In 1715 there were eight households in Diaková, in 1785 the village had 23 houses and 123 inhabitants. In 1828 there were 15 houses and 140 inhabitants who were employed as farmers. 25 people died of the plague in 1875, and there were several waves of emigration at the beginning of the 20th century.

The place in Turz County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 , after which it became part of Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Diaková had 268 residents, including 266 Slovaks and one Czech . One resident gave no information about ethnicity .

145 residents professed to the Evangelical Church AB, 73 residents to the Roman Catholic Church and one resident to the Evangelical Methodist Church and another denomination. 48 residents were without a denomination and the denomination of one resident was not determined.
