geography

The municipality is located in the north-eastern part of the Turčianska kotlina basin below the Great Fatra , seven kilometers southwest of Martin .

history

Today's community was established in 1973 (other information 1974) through the merger of the places Dolné Jaseno (historically also "Malé Jaseno", Hungarian Kisjeszen ) and Horné Jaseno (historically also "Veľké Jaseno", Hungarian Nagyjeszen ), which remain parts of the municipality to this day.

Historical settlement of today's municipality could be proven in the district of Hradište , with settlements of the Puchauer culture , from the Roman times as well as the time of Great Moravia .

The district Dolné Jaseno originated in the 13th century on a piece of land called Jordán and is mentioned in 1374 as Parva Jezen , while the district Horné Jaseno was founded a little later. In 1274 this is simply called Jezen , since the 14th century Nagh Jezen to distinguish it . In 1828 there were 60 houses and 322 inhabitants in Dolné Jaseno and 50 houses and 316 inhabitants in Horné Jaseno.

The history of both places is connected with the noble Jesenský family, who come from today's municipality and have ramified over the years. Almost half of the inhabitants still have the surname Jesenský.
