Sklabinský Podzámok (until 1927 Slovak "Podzámok"; Hungarian Szklabinyaváralja ) is a municipality in the north of Slovakia with a population of 181 (December 31, 2019) that the Martin District of, part kraj Žilinský heard and the traditional landscape Turz is counted .

The community is located at the western foot of the Great Fatra in the valley of the Kantorský creek in the catchment area of ​​the Waag . The center of the village is at an altitude of 508  m nm and is 10 kilometers from Martin .

Neighboring municipalities are Turčianska Štiavnička in the north, Podhradie in the northeast, Ľubochňa in the east, Turčianske Jaseno in the southeast, Sklabiňa in the south, Diaková in the west and Sučany in the northwest.

history

In the municipality of Sklabinský Podzámok there are finds from the Bronze Age and the early Hallstatt Age, as well as a burial place of the Lusatian culture and a settlement of the Puchauer culture . The place was first mentioned in writing in 1258 as Sklabonya , other historical names include allodium sub arce Sklabinya (1678), Podzamek (1773) and Sklabina Wárallya (1786). The history of the place is closely linked to that of the Sklabiňa Castle , which was the seat of the Turz County from 1320 to the last third of the 18th century . The village that emerged from a farm was first mentioned in 1678. In 1785 the village had 31 houses and 241 inhabitants who were employed as tanners, oil pressers and forest workers in the 19th century.

The place in Turz County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 , after which it became part of Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Until 1920 there was a brewery and a saw in the village. In 1944 there was a partisan camp in the Kantorská dolina valley . On September 30, 1944, Sklabinský Podzámok was set on fire after a battle between partisans and Nazi German units, but was rebuilt after the Second World War.

population

According to the 2011 census, Sklabinský Podzámok had 195 inhabitants, including 190 Slovaks and two Czechs . Three residents did not provide any information about their ethnicity .

75 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church and 68 residents supported the Evangelical Church AB. 26 residents were non-denominational and the denomination of 26 residents was not determined.
