Záborie (until 1927 "Zábor"; Hungarian Zábor ) is a municipality in the north of Slovakia with 168 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Martin , part of the Žilinský kraj and is part of the traditional Turz landscape .
geography
The municipality is located in the northeast part of the Turčianska kotlina basin and in the foothills of the Great Fatra in a side valley of the Sklabinský brook . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 501 m nm and is six kilometers from Martin .
Neighboring municipalities are Sklabiňa in the north and east, Turčianske Jaseno in the south, Dolný Kalník in the west and Dražkovce and Diaková in the northwest.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing as Zabor in 1353 and was owned by the local Záborský family until the 19th century , and since 1730 families like Chevan and Zrubka also owned goods in Záborie. In 1787 the village had 36 houses and 215 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 59 houses and 219 inhabitants who lived from agriculture and weaving (e.g. wool processing).
The place in Turz County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 , after which it became part of Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 142 inhabitants lived in Záborie, 136 of them Slovaks. Six residents gave no information in this regard. 91 residents supported the Evangelical Church AB and 26 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church. 14 residents had no denomination and eleven residents had no denomination.
