Turčiansky Ďur (until 1960 Slovak "Svätý Ďur" - until 1927 also "Svätý Jur"; German Sankt Georg , Hungarian Turócszentgyörgy - until 1907 Szentgyörgy ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 172 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) Okres Martin , part of the Žilinský kraj , belongs to the traditional Turiec landscape .

geography

The municipality is located in the central part of the torrent basin (Slovak Turčianska kotlina ) on the left bank of the Turiec . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 463  m nm and is 15 kilometers from Martin .

Neighboring municipalities are Kláštor pod Znievom in the west and north, Socovce in the east, Blažovce in the south and Moškovec in the south-west.

history

View of the Georgskirche

The place arose around the Georgskirche and was mentioned for the first time in 1332 as (plebanus) Sancti Georgii . In 1591, the Jesuits acquired part of the local property, until the abolition of the order the village was part of the territory of the Zniev Castle . In 1784 the village had six houses and 48 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 11 houses and 64 inhabitants who were employed as farmers.

The place in Turz County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 , after which it became part of Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Turčiansky Ďur had 172 inhabitants, including 171 Slovaks . One resident gave no information about ethnicity .

140 residents confessed to the Roman Catholic Church, ten residents to the Evangelical Church AB and two residents of another denomination. 14 residents had no denomination and six residents had no denomination.
