Ratkovo (Hungarian Vágratkó - until 1907 Rattkó ) is a municipality in the north of Slovakia with 199 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Martin , part of the Žilinský kraj , and is part of the traditional Turz landscape .
geography
The community is located in the northeast corner of the torrent basin (Slovak Turčianska kotlina ) on the right bank of the Waag, which is dammed up here in the Krpeľany reservoir . It is located at the point where the basin narrows between the Little Fatra in the north and the Great Fatra in the east. The town center is at an altitude of 460 m nm and is 19 kilometers from Martin .
Neighboring communities are Šútovo in the north, Krpeľany in the east and Turany in the south and west.
history
A settlement of the Puchau culture stood in today's municipal area at the turn of the times .
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1489 as Rathkow and at that time belonged to the estate of the Révay family . Ratkovo was one of the smaller villages, for example in 1620 it only had three houses, which were then destroyed by floods. In 1785 the village had 14 houses and 88 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 15 houses and 92 inhabitants who were employed as farmers.
The place in Turz County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 , after which it became part of Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, there were 182 inhabitants in Ratkovo, 179 of them Slovaks . Three residents did not provide any information about their ethnicity .
149 residents committed themselves to the Evangelical Church AB, 20 residents to the Roman Catholic Church and one resident each to the Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses and the Greek Catholic Church, the Orthodox Church and the Reformed Church; one resident professed a different denomination. Five residents were non-denominational and four residents had no denomination.
