Sklabiná (Hungarian since 1910 Mikszáthfalva - 1907-1910 Kürtabony and until then Szklabonya ) is a municipality in the Okres Veľký Krtíš within the Banskobystrický kraj in Slovakia .
The place lies in the Ipeľská kotlina ( Eipel basin ), a subdivision of the larger southern Slovak basin at the confluence of the river Krtíš and the brook Plachtinský potok . Sklabiná is located on the state road 527 between Veľký Krtíš , 7 km to the north and Šahy , 41 km to the west. The Hungarian city of Balassagyarmat , 11 km south, is also easily accessible.
Sklabiná was first mentioned in writing as Sclabonia in 1323 . The Hungarian writer Kálmán Mikszáth was born in the village in 1847 , and a museum is dedicated to him here.
