Balog nad Ipľom (1948–51 Slovak "Blh nad Ipľom" - until 1948 "Balog"; Hungarian Ipolybalog ) is a municipality in southern Slovakia with 788 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Veľký Krtíš , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the south of the Ipeľská kotlina basin , a subunit of Juhoslovenská kotlina on the right bank of the Ipeľ , which also forms the state border with Hungary here. The center of the village is at an altitude of 145 m nm and is 16 kilometers from Balassagyarmat (H), 17 kilometers from Šahy and 30 kilometers from Veľký Krtíš .
Neighboring municipalities are Vinica in the north, Dolinka in the east, Patak (H) in the south, Ipolyvece (H) in the southwest and Veľká Ves nad Ipľom in the west.
history
Balog nad Ipľom was first mentioned in writing as Bolug in 1232 , when Andrew II added the former royal estate to the estate of Altsohl . In a tithe directory from 1332, the place is mentioned as Belek . In 1375 the Oszláry family received the estate, which was administered from the 15th to the 19th century by the successor family Baloghy . In 1828 there were 69 houses and 579 inhabitants, whose main sources of income were agriculture and livestock. In the 19th century there was a brewery in the village.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Hont County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Between 1938 and 1945 he was again in Hungary due to the First Vienna Arbitration .

According to the 2011 census, 846 people lived in Balog nad Ipľom, including 717 Magyars , 113 Slovaks, 4 Czechs, 2 Russians and 1 Moravian. 9 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
