Denis Lowe

Denis S. Lowe is a clinical psychologist , developmental psychologist and politician from Barbados from the Democratic Labor Party (DLP), the 2008-2018 member of the House of Assembly and since 2008 Minister of Environment and Drainage in the Cabinet of Prime Minister of Barbados Freundel Stuart was .

Life

Degree, researcher and clinical psychologist

After attending school, Lowe began studying psychology , which he completed in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science (B. Sc. Psychology). He completed a subsequent postgraduate course in education with a focus on developmental psychology and the minor subjects social science research and political development at the University of Cincinnati in 1985 with a Master of Science degree (M. Sc. Education). In 1989 he earned a doctorate in education from the University of Cincinnati, this time focusing on developmental psychology with a minor in educational research .

After serving as a social development researcher at the University of Cincinnati and Ohio , he became Executive Director and Senior Advisor to Life View International . He has also given numerous lectures on topics such as substance abuse during pregnancy, the benefits of careers in education, the basics of a productive life and stress management. In addition, Lowe worked on numerous research projects between 1988 and 1996, which dealt with topics such as cocaine use during pregnancy, crisis situations among teenagers, community involvement in the fight against substance abuse and the social climate in integrated schools. He also received a license as a clinical psychologist in Barbados and a certificate as an HIV-AIDS consultant from the US Red Cross and the medical faculty of Drew University .

MP and Minister

In the elections of January 15, 2008, Lowe was elected as a candidate for the Democratic Labor Party (DLP) for the first time a member of the Legislative Assembly and has since represented the constituency of Christ Church East .

He was then appointed Minister of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Urban Development (Minister of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Urban Development) in his cabinet by Prime Minister David Thompson in January 2008 . As part of a cabinet reshuffle, he was appointed Minister of the Environment, Drainage and Water Resources on November 24, 2008 and has held this office in Freudel Stuart's cabinet since October 23, 2010 Assumed office of prime minister after Thompson's death.
