Hrušov (until 1927 Slovak also "Hrušovo"; Hungarian Magasmajtény - until 1892 Hrussó ) is a municipality in southern Slovakia with 830 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) . It belongs to the Okres Veľký Krtíš , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj .
geography
The municipality is located on the southern edge of the Krupinská planina highlands on the Veľký potok brook , 25 kilometers from Šahy and 30 kilometers from Veľký Krtíš .
In addition to the main town, numerous individual farms (Slovak lazy ) are scattered in the area.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1278 as Horossou and was owned by the old Hunt-Poznan family. In 1312 they sold the village to the Dobak family, who were only rulers for a short time. For an uncertain time, the village was owned directly by the crown, from the 14th / 15th centuries. Century then divided between different local nobles, often together with the neighboring town of Ninik .
In the time of the Turkish wars in the 16./17. In the 19th century, Hrušov was owed tribute to the Turkish owner. In 1828 there are 101 houses and 603 inhabitants. Since the Middle Ages it has been an agricultural village, where, in addition to growing fruits, sheep and cattle breeding and viticulture are known.
Until 1918 the place in Hont County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia.
The Slovak name refers to allegedly rich occurrences of pears (Slovak: hruška ) in the area. This fruit is also shown on the town's coat of arms. The Hungarian name Magasmajtény (= Hohes Majtény), introduced in 1892, is intended to recall the former owner Majt (h) ény, whose presence, however, has not been proven.
