It belongs to the Okres Veľký Krtíš , a district of the parent district Banskobystrický kraj . The name means in German "Eipel bridgehead".
geography
The municipality is located in the far west of the Juhoslovenská kotlina basin , in the lower part of Ipeľská kotlina (German Eipel basin) on the right bank of the Ipeľ , which is a border river here. Immediately to the north, the Krupinská planina rises . On the other side of Ipeľ is the Hungarian municipality of Drégelypalánk . Ipeľské Predmostie is 10 kilometers from Šahy and 38 kilometers from Veľký Krtíš .
Part of the surrounding municipality is covered by marshy terrain (Ipeľské Hony and Ryžovisko nature reserves) and is part of the Ramsar protected areas .
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1252 as Hydveg and in the Middle Ages belonged to the estate of Hont Castle, at that time the seat of the county of the same name . The population occupied themselves with agriculture, viticulture and in the 20th century also rice cultivation. The name of the place refers to a bridge over the river that was destroyed in late 1944.
Until 1919 the place belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia . Due to the First Vienna Arbitration Award , the place was again in Hungary from 1938-45.
