Kosihovce (until 1927 also "Kosihy" in Slovak; Dacsókeszi in Hungarian ) is a municipality in the south of Slovakia with 574 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Veľký Krtíš , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj .

The community is located on the south-eastern edge of Krupinská planina (German about "Karpfener Hochebene") in the Čurgov valley in the Ipeľ catchment area . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 263  m nm and is 14 kilometers away from Veľký Krtíš .

Neighboring municipalities are Cerovo in the north, Čebovce in the east, Nenince in the south-east, Seľany in the south and south-west and Opava in the west and north-west.

history

Kosihovce was first mentioned in writing in 1135 as Kukezu , other historical names include Kezeo (1295), Kezw (1335), Keszihocz (1448), Kezyholcz , Kezyhowcz (1483) and Kesihowce (1773). The village was owned by the Dacsó family in the Middle Ages and modern times , followed by the Beniczky , Palásthy and Hell families in the 19th century . In 1828 there were 124 houses and 743 residents who were employed as farmers and winemakers.

Until 1918/1919, the place in Hont County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Due to the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he was once again part of Hungary from 1938 to 1945.

Place name

The Slovak place name is a phonetic adaptation of the Hungarian Keszi , the name of one of seven ancient Hungarian tribes. The Dacsó in the Hungarian name indicates that the family of the same name has owned it for many years.

Roman Catholic Church

According to the 2011 census, Kosihovce had 606 inhabitants, including 398 Slovaks , 162 Magyars and eight Roma . 38 residents gave no information on ethnicity .

480 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 63 residents to the Evangelical Church AB and four residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses. 23 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 36 residents was not determined.
