Kováčovce (Hungarian Szécsénykovácsi , after 1945 also Ipoly-Kovácsi ) is a small municipality in the south of Slovakia with 327 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) . It belongs to the Okres Veľký Krtíš , a district of the parent district Banskobystrický kraj .

geography

The municipality is located in the Ipeľská kotlina basin , a lower part of the Juhoslovenská kotlina , on a bend in the border river Ipeľ (Hungarian Ipoly ) as the river changes direction from south to west. Kováčovce is eight kilometers from Szécsény in Hungary and 23 kilometers from Veľký Krtíš .

Administratively, the municipality is divided into parts of the municipality Kováčovce and Peťov (incorporated in 1898, in Hungarian Pető ).

history

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1295 as Koachy . The name is derived from the fact that the first inhabitants were blacksmiths (Slov. Kováč = ung. Kovács ). Kováčovce belonged to the estate of the nearby town of Szécsény, hence the Hungarian title. The inhabitants were mainly employed in agriculture, vegetable growing and viticulture, which is still the case today.

Until 1919 the place in Neograd County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia. 1938-45 he was again in Hungary because of the First Vienna Arbitration .

The Slovak town of Fiľakovské Kováče also had the official name of Kováčovce until 1927 .
