Malý Krtíš (until 1927 “Malý Krtýš” in Slovak; Kiskürtös in Hungarian ) is a municipality in the south of Slovakia with 518 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Veľký Krtíš , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj .
geography
The community is located in the Ipeľská kotlina basin in the valley of the Krtíš brook , in the Ipeľ catchment area . The center of the village is at an altitude of 175 m nm and is two kilometers from Veľký Krtíš .
Neighboring communities are Veľký Krtíš in the north, Veľké Straciny in the east, Nová Ves in the south and Obeckov and Dolné Plachtince in the west.
history
The place, at that time still together with Vevký Krtíš, was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1251 as villa Cvrtus , as an independent village only in 1482 as Kyskwrthes . Malý Krtíš was owned by various landlords. Between 1554 and 1593 the village was in the Ottoman Empire and devastated in the course of the 17th century. A settlement is mentioned between 1715 and 1720, which slowly became a village again. In 1828 there were 29 houses and 266 inhabitants, whose main source of income was agriculture.
Until 1918/1919 the place in Neograd County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
From 1973 to 1992 Malý Krtíš was part of the town of Veľký Krtíš.

According to the 2011 census, 500 inhabitants lived in Malý Krtíš, of which 476 were Slovaks , 7 Magyars and 1 each from Rome and one Czech . 15 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
298 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 123 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, 3 residents to the Greek Catholic Church and 2 residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church; 1 resident confessed to another denomination. 40 residents had no denomination and 33 residents had no denomination.
