The Krtíš is a 35.5 km long river in the middle of Slovakia and a right tributary of the Ipeľ .

The river rises in the Krupinská planina (German carp plateau) below the 622  m nm high Vrsáč hill east of Senohrad and northeast of Dačov Lom within the Lešť military training area and flows south. At Modrý Kameň , the Krtíš takes up the Riečka on the left and then runs parallel to the 2nd order road 527. Three kilometers below Modrý Kameň it reaches the town of Veľký Krtíš and further on to Malý Krtíš , before the right-hand Plachtinský potok enters the between Nová Ves and Sklabiná River flows out. At Želovce and Záhorce the direction changes to the southwest and the confluence with the Ipeľ lies east of Slovenské Ďarmoty and opposite the Hungarian city ​​of Balassagyarmat .
