Wurzelgeister is a compilation from the field of German Black Metal released as a double LP from 2003. It enjoys cult status among collectors.

Some of the most important German bands of the time contributed exclusive songs for the compilation, but unknown projects are also represented. Originally only planned as a split release between two bands, over time other bands were found for the sound carrier. The song On The Deathbed by Allfather's Wrath also appeared on their first demo; AvEdU by Amok Vedar comes from the EP Seelenfriede , but has been re-recorded for Wurzelgeister . Grabgewalt von Grabnebelfürsten was previously published on their first demo recording at the turn of the times and appeared as a bonus title on the first press of the digipak version of the album Von Schemen und Trugbildern . Lunar Auroras The Empty Throne was used as a bonus track on the re-release of the Soul Fire album . Via Obscura and Winterdawn have no other publications.

The LP was designed by Aran from Lunar Aurora. The record cover is black and white and shows an emaciated, skeletal figure holding a girl by the hand. Inside there is a short booklet with information about the bands and a poster in A3 format.

music

The bands represented are mainly based on atmospheric Black Metal playing styles and sometimes use subtle keyboards. The sound of the LP is bad for production reasons, but some of the bands have a naturally raw sound.

Nagelfar , Lunar Aurora and Grabnebelfürsten play their songs in their typical atmospheric style. Nocte Obducta are very much based on Black Metal, the song consists of two parts, the second part contains riffs from the album Schwarzmetall . Amok Vedar is the only band to represent a strongly keyboard-heavy, symphonic style. Pest, Via Obskura, Eternal Frost and Winterdawn play raw, fast-paced Black Metal similar to that of the early Norwegian bands without a keyboard. Paysage D'Hiver and Allvaters Zorn have strong ambient influences.
