Paysage D'Hiver ( French : 'Winter Landscape') is an Extreme Metal project from Bern . It was founded in 1997 by the only member Tobias «Wintherr» Möckl ( Darkspace ). Wintherr runs a label called Kunsthall Produktionen, which is where the publications were made. Paysage D'Hiver never performs live.

Music style and lyrics

Most of the songs the band treat the topic winter , with Wintherr "the stylized idea of winter landscape as something beautiful," as in the romance is found, avoids. He does not advocate a return to nature, but a movement "forward to nature"; it is possible to have a high-tech world and still have a strong connection to nature.

Wintherr was inspired by Burzum's albums Hvis lyset tar oss and Filosofem to make similar music. The first two releases can be assigned to the ambient , while on Schattengang the first time distorted guitars were used. Extra-long, repetitive pieces with a very raw production are typical. Often these are accompanied by sound samples (e.g. howling wind). Occasionally, an acoustic guitar is used, and a violin is also used on the self-titled album. Alex von Lurker's Path described the music as “inhuman”, Piero Scaruffi thinks that Paysage d'hiver (2000) “ basically rediscovered Black Metal ”.

All albums after the Steineiche CD were first released as a demo cassette as a self-production, but were later re-released as LP , DLP or as A5 Digibook - Winterkälte even as a 3-LP. All formats except the digibooks and the current album "Im Wald" (in the 4-LP box) are limited to a few hundred copies, since Wintherr regards the cassettes and LPs as collector's items.

At a listening event in Burgdorf for the album "Im Wald" (2020), USB sticks with wooden cases and the cover artwork were also distributed, which contain the entire album as .mp3. The USB sticks are limited to 50 copies (according to the number of permitted participants).
