Vinterriket ( no , and sv . 'Winterreich') is a music project by the German musician Christoph Ziegler.

history

The project was founded in 1996, recordings from that time remained unpublished. The first demo recording with the Norwegian title … Gjennom takete skogen was released in 2000. Since then, Vinterriket has released a total of six demos, twelve albums , eleven EPs , 18 split albums and 13 compilations , some in very small editions.

Music style and lyrics

While there were still some pieces influenced by black metal on the first demo albums, today's works can be assigned to the dark ambient genre. The music is described as "bare" and minimalist, as well as lifeless and unchangeable (with each Vinterriket album offering a slightly different definition of desperation), which is reinforced by the clear production. The vocals vary between whispering, screeching and clear vocals, but most of the newer pieces are instrumental . The similarity of many songs was criticized. The lyrics are mostly about darkness, nature, winter and loneliness, that is, themes of romance ; However, Ziegler avoids "the stylized idea of ​​the winter landscape as something beautiful", as it can be found in romanticism, and according to Rob von Lurker's Path " captures the overwhelming feeling of bleak lifelessness". Ziegler cites nature as the only source of inspiration for his texts. According to his own statement, he has "as much to do with religion as the Pope has with Black Metal"; this is "something for weak people who are not able to master their life themselves and who cling to some fictional gods or whatever the vulture". He also rejects Satanism and traces the term back to Christianity.

Side projects

Ziegler was also a short-term member of the band Graven and has been running the martial industrial project Atomtrakt since 2006 (with which he recorded the unison for Cirith Gorgor's album Firestorm Apocalypse - Tomorrow Shall Know the Blackest Dawn ). His second Nebelkorona project was created in 2004 and is part of the dark ambient environment. In 2009 Ziegler also founded the Swabian Neofolk group Dânnâgôischd. In addition, he joined the projects Sturmpercht (as "Waldwuz") and Fräkmündt (as "Chregu"). Together with Anna Murphy , there was an electronic project called Thrubyred at short notice in 2011.
