Fräkmündt is a folk music band from Central Switzerland .

history

Fräkmündt was founded in 2009 by Käthi, Chregu and Res. A year later, the demo cassette Losid vo Bärge ond Tal, limited to 77 copies, and the debut album Urbärglieder were released. The latter was also available in a limited edition wooden box. Also in 2010 Anna “Anneli” Murphy joined the group as a new member.

With the song D'Draachejongfer , Fräkmündt applied in autumn 2010 for the preliminary selection of the Eurovision Song Contest as a representative for Switzerland , but did not make it to the final. Shortly afterwards the concept appeared - EP Uufwärts e d'Föuse, bärgwärts e d'Rueh . Guschti, who had already been a session member before, became a permanent member and at the end of 2011 the second album Heiwehland was released , which mainly deals with homesickness in the broadest sense. In addition to a normal version in a digipak , the album was also released in a limited wooden slipcase and in a version in a gamelle . The session drummer on this album is Merlin Sutter (from the band Eluveitie ), the guest singer Christian Glanzmann (also from Eluveitie) and the opera singer Christiane Boesiger.

Chregu left Fräkmündt in 2012, Hagu Hans (drums) and Schälle Ursula ( Trychle ) joined in 2013. In the same year the change from the former Steinklang label to Auerbach Tonträger, a sub-label of Prophecy Productions, took place.

style

The group itself describes the style as Ur-Folk . Central Swiss legends are set to music and old songs are reinterpreted. Elements of traditional folk music from Switzerland and other regions as well as various other styles flow into the music . The singing is in a Swiss German , as spoken in the Lucerne area. The name Fräkmündt is the old name of Pilatus , a legendary mountain range near Lucerne . The name also occurs in the forms Fräkmünt, Fräkmünd and Fräkmont, see for example Fräkmüntegg , a north-eastern branch of the Pilatus.
