The Holsterhausen Municipal Comprehensive School is a comprehensive school in the city of Essen-Holsterhausen .

history

The Holsterhausen Municipal Comprehensive School was founded in 1997. Right from the start, the focus of the school was based on the principles of Agenda 21 .

Priorities and principles

AGENDA school

The Holsterhausen Municipal Comprehensive School understands school as a space for living and experiencing in the community of responsibility of the pupils, their parents, the teachers and the partners of the school. The school feels particularly committed to the challenges of Agenda 21 .

Principles of learning, teaching and living together

Derived from the principles of Agenda 21 , a central motto of the school is: "DOING instead of WAITing", so all students should learn together with the teachers and their parents to shape their own actions and to make their own contribution to the school principles Afford. In this context, among other things, the pupils are given a “courage card” at the school enrollment ceremony, which is intended to remind them that support is given to them if they publicly represent their responsible behavior.

Team school

The Holsterhausen Municipal Comprehensive School works according to a team model, so that the teachers teaching each year form a team. As an educational unit, this team forms the center of the educational work with regard to the students. As a rule, each class is supervised by 2 class teachers. In addition to the technical lessons , the class teachers take care of the organization of class council hours , SV work and the establishment of projects. The team model was implemented in order to have a form of organization that, on the one hand, actively involves the teachers in decision-making processes and, on the other hand, makes it possible to implement more student-oriented and interdisciplinary projects.

Live and learn democracy

In order to give the students a participatory forum to learn to argue and present publicly, cross-class, weekly meetings are held at the year level, at which current topics and problems are discussed and the students work participatively in setting goals. The stated goal is to strengthen a democratic culture, to identify with the school and to strengthen self-employment. Further components of the concept of “Living and Learning Democracy” are the weekly class council and regular participation in the national competition Jugend debattiert .

Joint lessons

Since the school was founded, there has been "joint teaching" at Holsterhausen Comprehensive School. This integrates students with special needs. There is one integration class per year . There are 22 students in each integration class, five to six of them with special needs. Special funding priorities at the Holsterhausen Municipal Comprehensive School are intellectual disabilities, visual and hearing impairments, physical disabilities, learning disabilities, behavioral problems, language disabilities and multiple disabilities. The teaching methods are based on the concept of internally differentiated work in the form of free work according to Maria Montessori .

Music funding

At the Holsterhausen Municipal Comprehensive School, one class in the 5th, 6th and 7th year is run as a music class in cooperation with the Folkwang Music School . In addition to the two regular music lessons, the music class has two additional hours of music lessons. In these lessons the children learn an instrument and how to play together in a class orchestra . The cooperative lessons take place in a double period. In the first lesson, the children receive instrumental lessons in small groups under the supervision of an instrumental teacher from the Folkwang Music School. In the following lesson, all groups come together for an orchestral lesson under the direction of the music teacher. Pupils who have completed the music class or who have musical talent can participate in the big band from the 8th year on . Schoolchildren receive special support in the field of interaction, accompanied by practical appearances in front of an audience. there were already collaborations, for example with the Saalbau Essen .

Culture of praise and recognition

A culture of praise and recognition is anchored in the school concept. The places and times of public praise at the Holsterhausen Municipal Comprehensive School are the monthly gatherings of the grades, the day on which certificates are issued and the so-called “Responsibility Festival”. The school honors the wicked, honorable agreement of individual students with an official written certificate on the day the certificate is issued. The responsibility festival is the final festival of the “Project Responsibility”, in which the 8th grade students volunteered for over a year.

To take responsibility

In this school program focus, the school works together with the AGENDA Forum of the city of Essen , through which u. a. the “Project Responsibility” was also certified as a local agenda project. The "Responsibility Project" is aimed at 8th grade students. It is firmly implemented in the curriculum and obliges the students to take on a responsible task within the school or the community outside of school throughout the school year. The educational goal is to strengthen civic engagement .
