Johannes Remmel (born May 25, 1962 in Siegen ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). He was between 1995 and 2012 and has been a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia again since 2017 . His main focus is on environmental and consumer protection. From 15 July 2010 to 30 June 2017 he was Minister for Climate Protection, Environment, Agriculture, Conservation and Consumer Affairs of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia ( cabinet power I , Cabinet Kraft II ).

Life

After graduating from high school in 1981 at the Giersberg high school , Remmel began studying history, Catholic theology and sport at the then University / Comprehensive University of Siegen (since 2003: University of Siegen ), but without a university degree. 1987 to 1988 he was chairman of the general student committee (AStA) at the university. From 1992 to 1995 he carried out various teaching activities, including as a teacher for “German as a Foreign Language”. He is married with two children and lives with his family in Siegen.

In 1983 he joined the party The Greens . From 1987 to 1988 he was a member of the board of directors of the Green City Association in Siegen, from 1991 to 1993 he was spokesman for the Siegen-Wittgenstein district association.

From 1988 to 1995 he was parliamentary leader of the Greens in the City Council of Siegen and was a member of the City Council of Siegen between 1989 and 1995. Here he was chairman of the local environmental committee.

In the state elections in 1995 Remmel made the leap into the state parliament . Until 2000 he was the tourism policy spokesman for the Greens parliamentary group, from 1997 he also acted as environmental policy spokesman and from 1999 until the state elections in 2000 as financial policy spokesman. From 1997 to 2000 he was also chairman of the Landtag commission of inquiry “The Future of Mobility”.

In the state elections in 2000 , Remmel again made it into parliament via the state reserve list of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen . Since then he has been the parliamentary managing director of the Greens parliamentary group and acted in this function as the group's coordinator.

In the 2005 election, too , a re-entry into the state parliament took place. Here he continued his work as parliamentary manager and was also the environmental and consumer protection spokesman for his group. In this function he was a member of the state parliament's environmental committee .

In the state elections in 2010, Remmel moved back into the state parliament via fourth place on the Alliance 90 / The Greens list. Between 2010 and 2017 he was Minister for Climate Protection, Environment, Agriculture, Nature and Consumer Protection for the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Even after the early election of the Landtag in 2012, Johannes Remmel was appointed to the fourth place on the list by Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen in the Landtag and again as Minister.

With effect from November 1, 2012, Johannes Remmel resigned his mandate in line with the expectations of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen NRW regarding the separation of office and mandate. For him moved Manuela Grochowiak-Schmieding after.

Others

  • During investigations against the former head of department in the NRW Ministry of the Environment, Harald Friedrich , Remmel got caught in a phone tap . Despite his immunity as a member of the state parliament, a telephone call Remmels was listened to and recorded by the police. This action later became known through press reports.
