Gustav Niermann

Gustav Niermann (born December 15, 1919 in Wehdem ; † February 4, 1989 in Stemwede ) was a German farmer and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

Niermann was born the son of a farmer. After graduating from high school, he began studying medicine, which he had to break off because he was drafted into the armed forces. From 1939 to 1945 he took part in World War II as a soldier , most recently as a lieutenant. At the end of the war he was taken prisoner by the French, from which he was released in 1947.

After his return from captivity, Niermann took over his father's farm. He completed an agricultural training, passed the master craftsman's examination and then worked as a practical farmer. From 1968 he was President of the European Agriculture Association (CEA). In the 1970s he was a member of the executive committee of the German Cooperative and Raiffeisen Association (DGRV).

Political party

Niermann joined the CDU in 1950 and has been deputy chairman of the CDU regional association Westphalia-Lippe since 1964 . In addition, he headed the Federal Agricultural Policy Committee of the Christian Democrats since 1963.

MP

Niermann was a member of the district council of the Lübbecke district from 1952 to 1958 and was a member of the Westphalia-Lippe Regional Assembly from 1953 to 1958 . From 1954 to 1975 he was a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament .

Public offices

Niermann held office from 1954 to 1958 as district administrator for the Lübbecke district. From 1957 to 1958 he was a member of the district council of North Rhine-Westphalia . On July 24, 1958, he was appointed Minister for Food, Agriculture and Forests to the government of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia led by Prime Minister Franz Meyers . During his tenure, he promoted the modernization of agriculture, the reorganization of rural settlement and the expansion of forestry. Moreover, that was land consolidation carried out in the country. After the constructive vote of no confidence in Meyers and the formation of a coalition of the SPD and FDP , he left the state government on December 8, 1966.

Honors

On December 12, 1986, Niermann was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia .
