As Westfalen-Lippe , the northeastern part of the country North Rhine-Westphalia understood. The parts of Westphalia and Lippe belong to it . The Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe was established in 1946.

The Provincial Association of Westphalia was responsible for the former Prussian Province of Westphalia until 1933 and from 1946 . The former Free State of Lippe came to the State of North Rhine-Westphalia on January 21, 1947 as part of the integration and thus became part of Westphalia-Lippe.
