Adolf von der Horst

Adolf August Ernst Ludwig Freiherr von der Horst (born October 5, 1806 in Haldem ; † July 30, 1880 in Wiesbaden ) was a district administrator for the Lübbecke district in Westphalia from 1838 to 1870 .

Life

origin

He was the son of the manor owner and district administrator of the Lübbecke district Karl von der Horst and his wife Charlotte, born Freiin von Hammerstein-Equord (1786-1838). On May 11, 1844, the family received the Prussian recognition of the baron class.

career

1825 put on Horst Pädagogium in Halle (Saale) the testimony of maturity, and then studied two semesters of Law at the Georg-August University of Göttingen , where he in 1828 a member of the (Mecklenburg) Corps Vandalia was. In 1826 he joined the 8th Uhlan Regiment of the Prussian Army in Trier as a volunteer and was promoted to Second Lieutenant by July 15, 1828 . On January 10, 1833, he was transferred to the 5th Uhlan Regiment with a patent from July 16, 1828 . For health reasons, however, Horst had to say goodbye and was released from military service on February 8, 1834.

On April 7, 1838, the district council of the Lübbecke district elected Adolf von der Horst as the second candidate for the district office, on November 27, 1838 he was appointed district administrator, subject to the examination. Horst had passed the aptitude test for the district office on February 21, 1839 with the district government in Minden and was then finally appointed district administrator on March 9, 1839. He held this office until his dismissal on request on July 28, 1870. Horst was also a member of the Prussian House of Representatives and a deputy member of the Provincial Parliament of the Province of Westphalia .

He was an honorary knight of the Order of St. John and was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Royal House Order of Hohenzollern and the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class, for his services .

The pass road Horsts Höhe over the Wiehengebirge is named after him.

family

Horst was a Protestant and had been married to Maria Freiin von Schmitz-Grollenburg (* January 17, 1808, † June 13, 1863) since October 5, 1830. She was the daughter of the District President Franz Edmund Josef von Schmitz-Grollenburg (1776-1844) and his wife Isabella von Zillerberg (1779-1845). The marriage resulted in two sons and a daughter, including the later Prussian Lieutenant General Bodo von der Horst (1838–1926).
