Bodo Maximilian August Heinrich Friedrich Wilhelm Freiherr von der Horst (born October 5, 1838 in Ellerburg ; † May 20, 1926 ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

He was the son of District Administrator Adolf von der Horst (1806–1880) and his wife Maria, born von Schmitz-Grollenburg (1808–1863).

Military career

Horst graduated from high school in Minden and joined the 15th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army on January 1, 1857 as a three-year-old volunteer with the prospect of promotion . Here he was promoted to secondary lieutenant in July 1859 and in 1861 was commanded for a few months in the training infantry battalion in Potsdam . On March 1, 1862, Horst was appointed adjutant of the Fusilier Battalion and in this capacity took part in the battles near Missunde and Rackebül and the assault on the Düppeler Schanzen in 1864 during the war against Denmark . In addition to a royal commendation, Horst received the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class with swords, for his behavior on the transition to Alsen .

After the end of the war he was assigned to the Guards Field Artillery Regiment for a year and on April 3, 1866 transferred to the Kaiser Franz Guards Grenadier Regiment No. 2 . In the same year Horst went to war against Austria with this regiment , fought at Thrush and was awarded the Order of the Crown, IV Class with Swords , for the Battle of Königgrätz . After the preliminary peace in Nikolsburg , he rose to Prime Lieutenant on July 31, 1866 .

First as leader of the mobile 8th company, Horst took part in the Battle of Gravelotte after the beginning of the war against France on August 18, 1870 and suffered a slight wound from a shot in the left arm. He received the Iron Cross 2nd class and acted as leader of the mobile 3rd company from October 31, 1870 during the siege of Paris . On November 15, 1870, Horst was promoted to captain to head this company . After the peace treaty , he rose to major and regular staff officer . On June 20, 1883, Horst was appointed commander of the Fusilier Battalion. In 1885 he was commanded to take part in the general staff training trip of the Guard Corps . On December 4, 1886 Horst was commander of the Guard Jäger Battalion and in this position was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on September 17, 1887 . On behalf of the sick commander, Hereditary Grand Duke Friedrich von Baden , Horst was in charge of the 5th Baden Infantry Regiment No. 113 from September 2 to December 16, 1889 . He was then commissioned to represent the detached commander of the 5th Westphalian Infantry Regiment No. 53 . On March 24, 1890, Horst became a colonel and commander of this association in Aachen . family

Horst had married Valeska Schröder (1846–1878), a granddaughter of Anton Diedrich Schröder , on July 14, 1865 in Hamburg . The marriage resulted in two daughters. The older daughter Anne-Marie (1857–1945) married the later Prussian Colonel General Moriz von Lyncker on October 8, 1889 in Potsdam .
