Moriz Freiherr von Lyncker (born January 30, 1853 in Spandau , † January 20, 1932 in Demnitz ) was a Prussian colonel general and head of the military cabinet .

origin

He comes from a Prussian soldier family. His grandfather was the Rittmeister Friedrich von Lyncker , his parents were the Prussian Major Arthur von Lyncker (1814–95) and his wife Emma Sieck (1829–1916), a daughter of the dye works owner Christian Sieck . His brother Kurt (1867-1934) became a Prussian major general.

Life

Lyncker graduated from the Wilhelms-Gymnasium in Berlin and on March 25, 1870, as a three-year-old volunteer with the prospect of promotion to the Kaiser Franz Garde Grenadier Regiment No. 2 of the Prussian Army . With this regiment Lyncker took part in the war against France in 1870/71 , was seriously wounded in the battle of Gravelotte and was awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class. From 1878 to 1881 he attended the War Academy and, after serving in the General Staff, served as a company commander in the 1st Guards Regiment on foot . He later served as adjutant to Crown Prince Friedrich , on the staff of the 18th Division in Flensburg , on the staff of the IV Army Corps in Magdeburg and as battalion commander in the Berlin Guard Fusilier Regiment . From 1895 to 1898 he was the first military governor (educator) of the imperial princes and was promoted to colonel during this time . He then became commander of the Queen Elisabeth Guard Grenadier Regiment No. 3 . In 1901 he was promoted to major general and in the following year he took over the 1st Guard Infantry Brigade in Potsdam . In 1905 he was in command of the 19th Division in Hanover and was promoted to Lieutenant General .

After the sudden death of the Chief of the Military Cabinet , General von Hülsen-Haeseler , he was appointed Adjutant General and his successor on November 17, 1908. He was therefore responsible for personnel matters in the Prussian Army. During the First World War , Lyncker, General of the Infantry since 1909 , was one of Kaiser Wilhelm II's closest collaborators . In April 1918 he was appointed Colonel General. From 1918 to 1919 he was President of the Reich Military Court before taking his leave in July 1919.

family

Lyncker had married Anne-Marie von der Horst (1857–1945) in Potsdam in 1889 . She was the daughter of the Prussian Lieutenant General Bodo von der Horst . The marriage had six children. Two of the sons died as frontline officers in World War I. The daughter Anne Marie (* 1901) became superior of the Maidenschule in Obernkirchen.
