Friedrich Ludwig von Schoeler

Friedrich Ludwig Robert Johann von Schoeler (born November 11, 1797 in Wesel , † March 17, 1869 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and wing adjutant and from 1848 to 1857 head of the Prussian military cabinet .

Life

Friedrich Ludwig was the eldest son of the later General of the Infantry Moritz von Schoeler (1771–1855) and his wife Eleanore, née Burggräfin and Countess zu Dohna-Lauck (1777–1855).

Military career

Schoeler joined the 18th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a musketeer on May 7, 1815 . With the promotion to Second Lieutenant on June 27, 1817 he was transferred to the 2nd Guards Regiment on foot . As Prime Lieutenant , Schoeler was in command from March 30, 1832 to September 5, 1836 as adjutant of the 2nd Guard Landwehr Brigade. He then returned to the 2nd Guards Regiment on foot and became captain and company commander there the following year . On April 7, 1842, he was promoted to major, and as such he joined the General Staff of the VIII Army Corps in November of the same year . After four years of his service there, Schoeler was assigned to the War Ministry and on July 8, 1848, appointed head of the department for personal affairs. He led this for the next nine years. In the meantime he had become a lieutenant colonel in May 1840 . In addition, on December 20, 1849, he was appointed wing adjutant to King Friedrich Wilhelm IV . This was followed by promotion to colonel on January 18, 1851, and major general on July 13, 1854 .

Due to a severe nervous condition, Schoeler submitted his departure , which was granted to him on February 10, 1857 with the award of the star for the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class, with a pension . At the same time he was given the right to wear the uniform of a general à la suite .

In recognition of his many years of service, the King granted him the character of Lieutenant General on November 22, 1858 and the Commander of the Royal House Order of Hohenzollern on January 18, 1861 .

family

Schoeler married Luise Friederike von Schoeler (1811–1874) on November 14, 1841 in Berlin. The marriage remained childless.
