Moritz von Schoeler
Moritz Ludwig Wilhelm von Schoeler (born September 3, 1771 in Wesel , † March 15, 1855 in Berlin ) was a Prussian infantry general .
Life
origin
Moritz was a son of Major General Johann Friedrich Wilhelm von Schoeler (1731-1817) and a brother of General of the Infantry Friedrich von Schoeler (1772-1840).
Military career
Like his father, and after his older brother, he also chose a military career and entered on June 1, 1782 Corporal Corporal in the Infantry Regiment "Gaudi" the Prussian army one. As an ensign he took part in the campaign in Holland in 1787 . On May 29, 1788, Schoeler became second lieutenant . In the campaign against France in 1792/95 he fought near Morlautern , Schwalb, St. Amand, St. Imbert, Saarbrücken, Deidesheim and Alsheim. For his achievements in the battle at Schwalm he was awarded the order Pour le Mérite on March 3, 1793 by King Friedrich Wilhelm II .
He was one of the adjutants of Lieutenant General Ernst von Rüchel and with him and his brother in 1801 a founding member of the Military Society . In 1804 he became captain and quartermaster lieutenant in the 3rd Brigade. Schoeler was captured during the Battle of Auerstedt and exchanged nine months later. He later worked as a major in the General Staff and then as an assistant at the Upper War College. In 1808 he was transferred to the artillery, he came to the Silesian Artillery Brigade at the end of February 1809 and acted as a brigadier here from November 7, 1809. In 1810 he was promoted to director of the 3rd Division of the General War Department in the War Ministry. As a general of the infantry, Schoeler received an annual pension of 4,000 thalers on April 4, 1837, for health reasons. In recognition of his many years of service, he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle First Class with diamonds at the farewell .
Schoeler is buried in the Invalidenfriedhof in Berlin.
family
In 1795 he married Eleanore Burggräfin and Countess zu Dohna-Lauck (1777–1855) in Wesel , the daughter of Major General August von Dohna-Lauck . The marriage had seven children:
