Reinhold Otto Friedrich August von Schoeler (born October 2, 1772 in Wesel , † October 28, 1840 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a Prussian infantry general .

Life

origin

Friedrich was a son of the later Prussian major general Johann Friedrich Wilhelm von Schoeler (1731-1817) and his first wife Charlotte Henriette, born Freiin von Pelden called von Cloudt (* 1744 in Moers ; † October 2, 1772 in Wesel). The later Prussian infantry general Moritz von Schoeler (1771–1855) was his older brother.

Military career

Schoeler was employed on September 16, 1786 as a private corporal in the infantry regiment "von Gaudi" . The following year he took part in the campaign in Holland . As a secondary lieutenant , Schoeler was in the First Coalition War against France at the siege of Mainz , the battle of Kaiserslautern , the bombardment of Fort St. Michel and the battles of Saarbrücken , St. Imbert, St. Amand and Hasnon . In 1804 he worked as a director in the military society . In the 1805 campaign , Schoeler was adjutant to the commanding general, the Duke of Braunschweig-Lüneburg , and an eyewitness to his fatal wound in the battle of Jena and Auerstedt in 1806.

In 1808 Schoeler was in St. Petersburg as a major and adjutant . On the occasion of a visit by the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III. there in January / February 1808 King Schoeler awarded the order Pour le Mérite "... on the highest of one's own movement ..." . During the wars of liberation he worked at the headquarters of the then Crown Prince of Sweden, since the Second Peace of Paris he was plenipotentiary minister and envoy extraordinary at the court of the Russian tsar in Petersburg and confidante of tsar Alexander I. He was promoted to general of the infantry; most recently he was envoy to the Bundestag in Frankfurt am Main.

On January 28, 1796, Schoeler married Auguste Wilhelmine von Kunitzky (1776-1858), a daughter of the Prussian major general Franz Georg Gneomar von Kunitzky . The following children were born from the marriage:
