history

The Abbey Hasnon was 670 as double benediktinerkloster of Johann and Eulalia, the kids of the Count of Ostrevant founded. In 867 Irmentrud , the wife of the future emperor Charles the Bald , retired to Hasnon, where she died in 869. Her daughter of the same name was abbess here. In 880 the abbey was destroyed by the Normans and in 1065 by Count Baldwin VI. rebuilt by Flanders . In September 1792 the inhabitants of the abbey resisted an Austrian attack, which earned them a mention in the daily order of the convent; the army keeps the memory under the name "Gardes nationaux, flanqueurs d'Hasnon".
