Mortagne-du-Nord is a French commune with 1,626 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the region of Hauts-de-France in the department of Nord . Administratively, the municipality is assigned to the arrondissement of Valenciennes and is part of the canton of Saint-Amand-les-Eaux (until 2015: canton of Saint-Amand-les-Eaux-Rive droite ). The inhabitants are called Mortagnais .
geography
Mortagne-du-Nord is located in French Flanders on the Belgian border and at the confluence of the Scarpe and the Scheldt , 16 km north-northwest of Valenciennes .
Mortagne-du-Nord is part of the Scarpe-Schelde Regional Nature Park (French: Parc naturel régional Scarpe-Escaut ) and is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Brunehaut (Belgium) in the north, Flines-lès-Mortagne in the east, and Château-l'Abbaye in the South-east, Thun-Saint-Amand in the south and Maulde in the west.
