Haulchin Town Hall

Haulchin ( Dutch : Halcim) is a French municipality with 2306 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the municipality of La Porte du Hainaut , the arrondissement Valenciennes and is part of the canton Aulnoy-lez-Valenciennes (until 2015: canton Valenciennes-Sud ). The inhabitants are called Haulchinois (es) .

geography

The canalized Scheldt (French: Escaut ) flows through the municipality . Haulchin is surrounded by the neighboring communities Wavrechain-sous-Denain in the north, Rouvignies in the northeast, Prouvy in the east, Thiant in the south and southeast, Douchy-les-Mines in the southwest and Denain in the west.

The A2 autoroute and the former Route nationale 30 (today's D630) run through the municipality .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 877, when Charles the Bald gave the place to the monastery of Denain.
