Fresnes-sur-Escaut is a French municipality with 7565 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France , near the Belgian border. The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Valenciennes and is part of the canton of Anzin . The residents are called Fresnois .

geography

Fresnes-sur-Escaut lies on the Scheldt (French: Escaut), into which the Haine river flows here. The Canal de Pommerœul à Condé connects the Scheldt from here with the Belgian canal system. Fresnes-sur-Escaut is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Vieux-Condé in the north, Condé-sur-l'Escaut in the northeast, Quarouble in the east, Vicq in the southeast, Onnaing in the south, Escautpont in the southwest and Odomez in the northwest.
