Douchy-les-Mines is a French commune with 10,558 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the arrondissement of Valenciennes and the canton of Denain . The inhabitants are called Douchynois .
geography
Douchy-les-Mines is located on the river Selle that flows into the Scheldt here , about ten kilometers southwest of Valenciennes .
Douchy-les-Mines is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Denain in the north, Haulchin in the northeast, Thiant in the east, Noyelles-sur-Selle in the south, Neuville-sur-Escaut in the southwest and Lourches in the west.
Autoroute A2 leads through the municipality . Here at the motorway triangle, the A21 autoroute goes to Lens .
history
Located on a Roman road, the first evidence of its existence for the 10th century can be found with the mention of the place Dulciaca . The place by the Count of Valenciennes to the abbey of Saint-Pierre was restituted and the process of King Lothar I confirmed.
The place was seriously damaged in both world wars.
