Château-l'Abbaye is a French municipality with 874 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the region of Hauts-de-France in the department of Nord . Administratively, the municipality is assigned to the arrondissement of Valenciennes and is part of the canton of Saint-Amand-les-Eaux (until 2015: canton of Saint-Amand-les-Eaux-Rive droite ). The inhabitants are called Castellabiens .

Château-l'Abbaye is located in French Flanders near the Belgian border and on the canalized rivers Scheldt and Scarpe , 14 km north-northwest of Valenciennes .

Château-l'Abbaye belongs to the Scarpe-Schelde Regional Nature Park (French: Parc naturel régional Scarpe-Escaut ) and is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Flines-lès-Mortagne in the north and east, Bruille-Saint-Amand in the south-east and Nivelle in the south , Thun-Saint-Amand in the west and Mortagne-du-Nord in the north-west.
